LEGISLATION

Senator Bill Burt is sponsoring SB 175, Military Affairs Changes, in the 2020 Regular Session. MG Nava has coordinated this bill with Senator Burt and with Governor Lujan Grisham and her staff.  Highlights of this legislation include: amending the code to allow the Governor greater latitude to call up the National Guard for State Active duty, designated the Adjutant General as Commanding General of the NMNG, and creating a new section of law that clarifies the Adjutant General’s authority to promulgate criminal procedure regulations for the NMNG.  It also updates the requirements for utilization of the State Defense Force.  The bill is scheduled to be heard in Senate Public Affairs Committee on 2/6/2020.
